We prefer the term ''intentional family,'' but we were making it up as we went along before we discovered an existing terminology.

If you are offended by non-traditional relationships, this is probably not where you want to be.

The first posts are at the bottom - it's a whole "reverse chronology" thing that irritates Sylvie-the-Control-Freak to no end but appears to be unavoidable.

Won't bore you with it all, but it all coalesces around "Communication," especially "communication of perspectives." I've posted a lot on the polyfamilies list today, as well as had a long conversation with Richard about the merging of lives and lifestyles - especially when there are kid/no kid households to merge (see the list archives on yahoo for that conversation) and divergent socio-economic histories to deal with (that one's private). The shared values are shared. The heebie jeebies are a lot less powerful in the awesome face of almighty communication.

*waving* Have a good one, y'all.

Hi again - ok, this seems to work. To introduce us a little more completely - my name is Sylvia Beach Trinity, a.k.a. Sylvie, a.k.a. the Freki (2nd-in-commend, bodyguard type). I write under an assumed name because of my work; my work imposes anonymity on my spice too (in a public forum such as this). They're cool with it. Well, Richard maybe less so than Anita, but he understands.

A note on the word "spice" - tongue-in-cheek plural of "spouse." No, we're not all legally married - that's illegal. Richard and Anita are. I'm the interloping Third, except that the interloping Third is really Richard because Anita and I date back to the Dark Ages, before McDonald's had Drive-Thru windows, before MTV, and before the short guy with the Napoleonic Complex and artistic (?) aspirations brought the company inside, out of the mosquitoes. (Three of those are shriekingly inaccurate, but bear with me - it's Friday and I'm tired, and I always - Friday and tired or not - have a wacko sense of humor.)

Basically what you're looking at here is an intentional family - a family that has developed organically over several years, starting with friendship and becoming, slowly, a great deal more. We didn't set out for this to happen - it just happened. I think we all fought it for a while - I mean shoot, everyone knows the American family has *two* adults and no more, never, uh-uh, no way... Well, this one has three. The cubs call me "Aunt" - which is cool; that's sort of what I am - and I call them my godsons, best buddies, or, more generally, by their first names (code names Remus and Romulus).

So anyway, yes, three adults. Our favorite things to do are drink coffee, read books, hang out with the cubs and our friends, geek on the 'puter (me and Richard; Anita has to do that too much for work), cook, make music, and talk talk talk talk talk. Except Richard. He just likes to talk. Sometimes. Well, to some people.

See? We're really very boring.

Except we don't think so! ;)

Anyway, Anita and Richard are in the stressful process of moving out here to be closer to where I am (somewhere in Middle America), so they probably won't post much for a while. It's going to be interesting to see what happens when they get here.

Primarily I'm concerned about how we're all - three adults, two cubs, two dogs, and one cat - going to squish into my single person's apartment for a couple of nights before they get the keys to the new house. I'm thinking boarding the dogs? I wish I could come up with a better solution, buuuut....

Anyway, enough about us. Please feel free to email us, c/o SylviaTrinity@aol.com

Bye! Welcome to the public journal of The Lupanar - our people pack, intentional family, polyfamily...call it what you will. We generally call it "us."

The cast of characters are Sylvie, Anita, and Richard. Yep, we borrowed the names from a fictional series; nope, sorry, we can't use our real names for this venue. C'est la vie. (The series, if you're interested, is the Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton - it's pretty nifty, not to say addictive! Warning: Contains adult content - the series, not this site... We have our propriety straight...)

Anyway, so far this is just a test to see how this works. Have a good one, y'all. (Richard? Anita? Care to join me in this new venture? I know, I know, like y'all have time. *grin*)
